Here are, in our opinion, some of Portland’s best roasteries. These are absolute winners, and anyone you go for will definitely be worth the time and experience.

Never Coffee
There are cafés, and there are coffee roaster cafes.
Never Coffee is one of the best in the city of Portland, and we don’t make this claim lightly.
Never Coffee is a coffee lab with two locations in Mount Tabor and Downtown. A visit to any of their cafes is worth every penny you spend and more. Not only is the coffee great, but the trip to the cafe in the morning is also an excellent way to burn a few calories and to get your mind right for the start of a new day.
The café itself is quite colorful with white, spotless walls and pastel-colored designs.
As for the coffee served, the beans are roasted in-house and served in paper cups or handmade ceramics. We are also sure that you will love the signature lattes of Never Coffee flavored with ingredients like fennel seeds, saffron, and cascade hops. A cup in this café is worth its weight in gold.

Roseline
Roseline is the perfect spot for coffee connoisseurs who prefer hand-roasted coffee over packaged coffee roasted en masse in faraway factories.
Roseline was initially a Wholesale distributor of coffee in Portland until a café was established in 2018. Situated off Avenue 100 in South East Portland, Roseline is a popular spot for coffee drinkers.
For starters, the floor-to-ceiling designs are amazing, and so are the windows. Then there are the decorative houseplants placed at strategic spots to give the dining halls an evergreen and natural outlook. In fact, the interior is welcoming and will make you feel at home the moment you walk in.
Here, the coffee beans used to prepare coffee for customers are hand-roasted by the baristas on duty, and there are different coffee styles on offer. They have pink peppercorn lattes, pour-over coffee, and espresso. Having a few options to pick from will only go to improve your experience above anything else.
Besides the good coffee, diners can also munch on Roseline’s pastries and English muffins to go along with the coffee of their choice. Lastly, they also have their home-brewed packaged coffee that they sell for $20 just in case you wish to take some of the glorious goodness, home.
Super Joy
This Portland coffee roaster is located at the intersection of Southwest Park Avenue and was formerly called J Coffee before the name was changed to Super Joy. And we must say that the new name truly reflects the feelings of joy customers experience with each cup.
Not very far from Portland State University, this cafe and roaster is a popular spot for college students and white-collar workers in the community.
The meticulous brewing process at Super Joy is both a science and an art. The owner, Joe Yang, is a master barista known to brew Arabica coffee brands better than anybody else. He was honored with a Q Arabica Grader certification and is also an authorized trainer. He was also a winner of the 2020 US Roaster Championship.
So you see, the coffee drink at Super Joy is not just any coffee but the best coffee that’s roasted and brewed by the master of the game. Most of the coffee sold roasted and sold here are sourced from Asia. And to improve your experience, the latte ingredients contain taro, soy sauce, and osmanthus. Super Joy’s roasting facility is located at Yamhill Street, Portland.

Portland Ca Phe
In Vietnam, the locals call coffee Ca Phe, and that is what this Roastery and café are called. Located on Holgate Boulevard, this is where you will find coffee roasted and brewed, Vietnamese style.
Ca Phe is made up of traditionally roasted Robusta beans of the dark variant and paired with sugar. Before now, this roasting and brewing style was largely unknown in this part of the world until Ca Phe appeared on the scene.
The facility is owned by Kim Dam, who started roasting coffee beans at her family’s restaurant in Vietnam called the House of Banh Mi. As time went on, she transitioned from roasting coffee for her Vietnamese clientele to supplying the same coffee beans to Vietnamese retail outlets in Portland. After establishing Ca Phe in Holgate Boulevard, she started selling her roasted coffee directly to customers.
As a customer, you are free to either buy a sealed pack of roasted Ca Phe coffee beans or enjoy a steamy cup at the café. There are different coffee styles you can order, ranging from Traditional iced coffee from Vietnam to classic espresso drip coffee to flavored lattes mixed with ginger syrup.
Proud Mary
Proud Mary is located in Northeast Alberta, Portland but with an origin in Australia. This café is not just any café but a café par excellence that also doubles as a Roastery.
Proud Mary has a roasting facility at the back of the cafes, and many Portlanders like coming here because they get to enjoy or buy freshly roasted coffee.
There are several options here like mild, curious, wild, and deluxe coffee styles. Most of the coffee beans sold by Proud Mary are single-origin coffee, but there are also gesha blends if you want something different. If you visit when the indoor and outdoor dining area is packed full, you can always order take-out.
Guilder
Guilder is a spacious greyscale café on the Northeast of Fremont Street. This café is as good as any café can be.
As you walk in, the first image that will catch your attention is that of Andre the Giant hanging majestically on the walls. Then as you settle and your coffee is served, you will experience a special kind of inner peace and satisfaction as you sip your coffee.
The homebrewers at Guilder are some of the best in the business. You can enjoy black coffee of Asian or American variants; both sold under the Junior Roasted Coffee label.
Due to the Pandemic, the dining area has been closed, so you can only order take-out. At the front of the store is an electronic board that showcases the current price of different coffee sold by the store.
The Pearl Sister Coffee Company
The Pearl is situated on Northwest Marshall Street, Portland. If you are looking for a venue with an extensive menu list, this is the place to visit.
They serve traditional espresso, tea beverages, pastries, sandwiches, and black coffee. However, their signature menu that attracted customers from near and far are the Black Butte and the Sisters Blend coffee. They also have single-origin coffee offerings sourced from the Timor Leste region and Rwanda.
Pearl Sisters Coffee roasts and packages their coffee in eco-friendly paper bags. You can buy directly from the café or from grocery stores in the area.
Nossa Familia
Noosa Familia is a Portuguese word for “Our Family.”
Established in 2004 and starting from humble beginnings, this business has grown in leaps and bounds with a Wholesale supply chain and several café locations. Founded by Augusto Carneiro, born and raised in Rio, Brazil, the coffee roasted and sold at Nossa Familia originates from the family’s farm in the Brazilian highlands.
Noose Familia also sources coffee from Nicaragua and Kenya and a few other countries. At this roaster café, you can order standard coffee or espresso. Then there is the special Brazilian cafezinho and hot water espresso. Better still, you can buy their packaged chocolate espresso cream to go along with your coffee roasts.
La Perlita
La Perlita is regarded as one of the first coffee shops in Downtown Portland and was founded by Angel Medina. This founder is also the founder of many coffee businesses in Portland. Today the chain owns La Perlita, Kiosko, and a Roastery called Small time Roasters.
Small-time roasters supply roasted coffee beans to La Perlita and other cafés owned by Angel Medina’s chain. Now, Smalltime has been rebranded to Reforma Roasters, with a supply chain coming from Mexico.
The coffee beans roasted by Reforma are some of the best in Portland and are spiced with dried raspberry crumbles. Here you will also find beverages on the menu like True Mexican, Con Leches, and Cortaditos.
Deadstock Coffee Roasters
Deadstock is popularly called the “Snob free” Coffee shop. While we can’t necessarily tell you the origin forge name, what we know is that the coffee sold here is excellent.
Deadstock is located in Northwest Couch Street. Here, you can enjoy different flavor notes of their in-house roasts. The offerings here are also spiced with different flavors to give you unique tastes.
Deadstock brews and sells most of the coffee beans they roast. They also offer lemonades, sweet tea, and a special coffee blend as part of their menu.
Kopi Coffee
Also called Kopi Coffee House, Kopi is located in the Southeast of Burnside. The coffee bean roasted at Kopi Coffee is sourced from several countries like Myanmar, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The owners of this business are not only into it for the money but consider it a calling. Having spent the last 15 years traveling through the region and learning different brewing and roasting styles, they are what many will consider experienced coffee Connoisseurs.
Kopi Coffee House brews and sells coffee to customers and diners. The Indo-Malay interior theme is indeed welcoming, while the walls are decorated with imported paintings. As for the menu list, you will be spoilt for choice since you can pick from a wide selection of options such as Indonesian Ginger coffee, Vietnamese iced coffee, Traditional espresso, and loose tea.
Heart Coffee
Heart Coffee roaster has garnered quite a cult-like following over the years on the West Coast. This coffee retailer is known for its specialty coffee and is one of the best coffee roasters in the city.
The flavor notes of their coffee are outstanding, which best explains why new batches are sold out within a short time. From fruity coffee to dark roasts, Heart has it all. Chief among their flavor offerings is the Scandinavian cardamom bun which is always in high demand.
They also have another packaged option of classic espresso milk, which is basically a single-origin coffee with low acidic levels. You may choose to order take-out or wine and dine with a friend in the café.
Spella Coffee
Starting as a mobile cart business before launching a takeaway business in Downtown Portland, Spella is one of the best Portland coffee roasters in the city. People who want to enjoy traditional espresso coffee in their goes without having to roast the beans themselves come to Spella.
Spella brews and packages some of the best Italian coffee in the area ranging from dark roast espressos to foamy cappuccinos and ristretto coffee. They also sell Italian sodas and Shakeratos.
